From the author of acclaimed Nantucket Blue and Nantucket Red, comes THE FORGET-ME-NOT SUMMER (Ages 8 – 12), Howland’s middle grade debut about three sisters and an unforgettable summer.
Sisters Marigold, Zinnia, and Lily are looking forward to the summer. As L.A. natives and daughters of a screenwriter and movie editor, there’s plenty to keep them busy. Twelve-year-old Marigold is hoping to win a role in the upcoming blockbuster Night Sprites—and get her first kiss. Zinnia, eleven, having failed at trying to tame her unruly curls, has plenty of time on her hands during summer vacation, and will mostly likely spend it in Marigold’s shadow. Five-year-old Lily, whom everyone adores, is happy just to play with her nanny Berta all day. But when their parents announce that they’re sending the girls to their Aunt Sunny’s house on Cape Cod, the girls must adjust to a simpler way of life, trading television and WiFi for clambakes and sand castles.
At first it seems like it’s going to be the worst summer ever. Aunt Sunny even has all of them sharing a room! But when the girls decide to organize a local talent show, they see just how fun this small town can be. Learning to sail, making new friends—and with even the hint of a summer romance—their time on Cape Cod is full of firsts, fun, and plenty of sun.
By the end of their surprisingly enjoyable summer in Massachusetts, the three girls overcome their fears and insecurities, while learning to band together as the strongest version of themselves they can be: sisters.
