PEN Center USA Emerging Voices Author Evenings: Angela Flournoy & Julia Fierro

Monday, June 20th at 7 p.m.

To celebrate the fellowship’s 20th Anniversary, PEN Center USA has opened The Emerging Voices Author Evening Series to the public. Free to PEN Center USA members who bring their Author Evening ticket; non-members can purchase tickets here.

Author Evening Series events include a brief reading, conversation, and a question-and-answer session with the audience. The Monday, June 20th Author Evening at 7 p.m. features two accomplished novelists, Angela Flournoy and Julia Fierro, reading respectively from their novels The Turner House and Cutting Teeth.

10-flournoyAngela Flournoy is the author of The Turner House, which is a finalist for both the National Book Award and the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize, and also a Summer 2015 Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection, and a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice. She is a National Book Foundation “5 Under 35” honoree. Her fiction has appeared in The Paris Review, and she has written for The New York Times, The New Republic, and the Los Angeles Times.

10-fierroJulia Fierro is the author of the novels Cutting Teeth and the forthcoming The Gypsy Moth Summer. She is a graduate of the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, where she was awarded a Teaching-Writing Fellowship. In 2002, Julia founded The Sackett Street Writers’ Workshop which has since become a creative home to over 2,500 NYC writers. Sackett Street was named a “Best NYC Writing Workshop” by The Village Voice, Time Out NY, and Brooklyn Magazine, and a “Best MFA-Alternative” by Poets & Writers and The L Magazine. Julia’s work has been published, or is forthcoming, in The Millions, Poets & Writers, Flavorwire, Glamour, Psychology Today, and other publications, and she has been profiled in The L Magazine, Brooklyn Magazine, The Observer,and The Economist.
