All Lit Up is a collaborative effort with host-author Rich Ferguson and Chevalier’s Liz Newstat. Every month we offer delectable morsels from literary artists and musicians, served between convivial mixing. This month we are honored to host two luminary guests who are both venerated musical artists and outstanding writers. In a special appearance, legendary lead vocalist and songwriter Johnette Napolitano (Concrete Blonde) out with a book Rough Mix, drummer and short story writer David Kendrick (Sparks, Gleaming Spires, Devo) will let us listen in on the pulse of their new writings. A real high-flying treat! Reading and signing.
Johnette Napolitano has toured the world as the main voice and bassist of the Los Angeles rock band Concrete Blonde. A respected and prolific songwriter and recording artist, Napolitano is also a gallery artist and has contributed to group shows in Los Angeles and New York and solo installations including a multi-media performance at the historical landmark The Integratron in the Mojave Desert. Johnette’s music can be heard on television and in American and foreign film soundtracks. Her new book, Rough Mix, is the first of a series of memoirs, stories, poetry, lyrics and essays.
David Kendrick is a Los Angeles based musician and writer. He has served time in Sparks, Gleaming Spires, Devo, Andy Prieboy and his own The Empire of Fun as drummer and songwriter. And in a dangling sentence, at least 272 other projects over the years. Kendrick is also a short story writer and essayist who reads around town and has stories published in several reasonably obscure collections. I’m sorry Mr Kendrick, there’s a skull inside your head gathers six tales onto Despot Records spoken word CD; concerning murder, self non-realization and botany.
